OPM Rule: Annuity = High-3 average salary × years of service × 1% (1.1% if you're retiring at age 62 or older with 20+ years of service). Law enforcement officers, firefighters, and air traffic controllers use 1.7% on their first 20 years of covered service and 1% beyond that instead. Retiring at your Minimum Retirement Age with 10 to 29 years (MRA+10) reduces the annuity 5/12 of 1% for each full month you're under 62 when it starts, unless you have 20+ years and it starts at 60 or later. With a VERA offer or an involuntary (discontinued service) separation, you can retire at 50 with 20 years or at any age with 25, with no age reduction. A full survivor election reduces your annuity 10% and pays your spouse 50% of it; a partial election reduces it 5% for a 25% survivor benefit.
